Space Journey!
Space Journey showcased man's flight from 1903 through
current and future NASA space programs.
This exhibit included the Apollo Command Module, a full-scale replica that was used in
Universal Studio's Apollo 13 movie, the Mercury Spacecraft, a full-scale replica complete with
cockpit and astronaut, and the first stage rocket engine (actual) of the type used to launch
America's first orbital astronaut. Also included were NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and
the U.S. Space and Rocket Center's Space Laboratories, Science in Orbit exhibit, with full-scale
walk through mock-ups of the U.S. Destiny laboratories and Skylab Mir, and the International
Space Station display cases, which demonstrate the science and engineering and the physical
and cultural challenges of conducting space research. Additional interactive exhibits included a
multi-axis trainer, the shuttle simulator, a Lunar Rover model, a Skylab gyroscope,
a LEM leg, a nose cone, and a shuttle tile. Also included were Langley Research Center's
Aerospace Design exhibit, with NASA artifacts including past and present wind tunnel models
and flight items. Additional exhibit items provided by: Ames Research Center, the Jet
Propulsion Laboratory, Space Dynamics Laboratory, the Space Museum, and Hill Aerospace Museum.
